Often when I teach idioms, I feel like it is a losing cause. You can often match the idiom to its correct meaning, but then the next day, it has vanished. So, when I do teach idioms, I make sure to revisit them a few times showcasing them in different ways to help you use them. And using them is the hard part or at least using them correctly.
So, I came up with a few tips that might help:
Idioms are figurative.
Even if you understand each word individually, you will have difficulty coming up with the idiomatic meaning.
One of the best ways to remember the phrase is to attach a visual to it.
